In the fall of 2001, James had the opportunity to band hawks for the first time. With no prior knowledge of hawks, James was hooked for life. Now a passion of James', he has become an avid hawk watcher and enjoys the opportunity of joining a friend of his who is a hawk bander. "One of the greatest things about touching these beautiful creatures for the first time is I get to photograph their protraits and create these paintings," James was quoted.

In 2007, James plans to launch this work with shows and more reproductions including a special boxed set of giclees.
